Ride and Stride 2017

Dr. Nick Richards, Linda and David Glover for Oxon Church

Come rain or come shine! Well, the rain came frequently but the sun also shone from time to time for this year’s Ride and Stride on 9 September 2017.

Ride and Stride is where cyclists and walkers are sponsored to visit churches and chapels to raise funds which are shared between Shropshire Historic Churches Trust and their own church.

Revd. David prayed with us before we left Oxon Church at 10 o’clock. Our first visit was to the hospital chapel, then we made various visits in Radbrook, Meole Brace and Belle Vue as we made our way to the town centre where we locked up our bikes and made visits on foot.

The rain at least gave us an excuse to take our time over the cups of tea and biscuits we were offered at churches as we sheltered with other Riders and Striders.

Later, we set off on our bikes through The Quarry and along the riverside to the old canal path towards Uffington. The rain came down again – mud everywhere – and David’s bike had a rear tyre puncture! Trying to fix that was an adventure in itself. Nick and Linda made it to Uffington but, at this point, we called it a day.

The ride from Oxon and back was approximately 20 miles and we  visited 19 churches.

We are delighted to let you know that £274 was raised.

Thank you very much to everyone who supported us.
